Eating In Season ~ Homemade Concord Grape Juice

Eating in season is the best way to consume fresh produce and while grocery shopping with a friend we could smell the fresh scent of locally grown concord grapes and this lead to the making of fresh concord grape juice:

Instructions

Ingredients: 3 pound of fresh concord grapes, 1 gallon of spring water and 1/4 cup of volcano agave or date syrup.

Wash your grapes in a water bath with veggie wash or spray.
Rinse and drain grapes before placing into a large stock pot.
Mash the grapes using a potato smasher and place the pot onto the stove once the grapes are mashed and juicy.
Cook on medium heat until it begins to bubble a little and reduce to low simmer for about 8-10 minutes, still mashing/mixing during the process.
Pour juice mixture into a fine mesh strainer over another large stock pot or bowl.
After fully strained, strain through a cheese cloth or nut milk bag into a large beverage container.
You can allow the mixture to strain overnight in the fridge or put on some gloves and gently squeeze the nut milk bag.
Place in the refrigerator once fully strained and enjoy within a week.

Are You Ready For A Self Directed Fast?

A self directed fast is when you have decided you are ready to embark on a fast alone. This is unfamiliar territory for many but comes with great benefits. A fast can be achieved for 24 hours or even longer depending on your reasoning for fasting and your determination to fast.

There are many members in the alkaline vegan girls group interested in a fast and I wanted to provide additional information to help with a successful fasting experience. The information I have read on fasting states fasting is safe for the majority of individuals but for those that are extremely ill should fast under the guidance and supervision of their health care worker.

My reasons for fasting are to rid my body of mucous and to assist my body in restoration, rejuvenation, and to create an alkaline environment for my body to exist in. If you plan to juice fresh veggies and fruits than make sure you have a working juicer. If you plan to blend your veggies and fruits make sure your blender is in good working condition as well.

Review the attached article and outline of fasting and decide what is best for you and from there you will need to plan for the fast. If you are juicing your veggies and fruits it is best to purchase as close to the date you plan to juice so that you don’t waste the food or your money. You can juice your fruits/veggies the night before and store in mason jars or any glass jar with an airtight lid. If you decide to do smoothies make them mostly green. You can prepare smoothie mix bags the night before and freeze until the morning. Depending on what types of fruits you plan to blend fresh if in season and 100% all natural frozen if out of season. In addition to juicing or making smoothies or broths it is wonderful to add herbal teas to the fasting regime.

Check the nutritional guide and decide which teas will be great for you. I also recommend consuming Dr. Sebi’s compounds during the fast to assist in the removal of mucous and toxins.

My goal during the fast is to consume a gallon of fresh fruits and veggies daily and if I don’t consume a full gallon then I drink water to make sure to continue to hydrate and flush waste from my body. The reason I may drink less is because my appetite has decreased.

Whatever your reasons for fasting, here are 10 tips to ensure you fast smart.

1) Prepare Your Mind
Before you begin, think about why you want to fast. What do you want to achieve? It’s important to have the right mindset before you start or you may lose heart early on. Pray for discipline and a strong will to complete the fast.

2) Stock Up
Shop for everything you’ll need before the day you begin. Not having everything you need on your first day is a sure way to fail. If you’re doing a juice fast, for example, look at the recipes you’ll be using, and make sure your shopping list has all the ingredients.

3) Drink Water
Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of spring water while you are fasting so you can flush away toxins and waste. This will also help you stay energized. Dehydration can cause you to feel tired and hungry. If you are consuming a gallon of fresh juiced fruits or vegetables you will not need to consume a gallon of water.

4) Go Easy
Gentle exercise, such as walking, is good, but don’t overexert yourself. Your body is working hard to eliminate toxins, remove damaged cells and restore vitality. This important work is often not completed when we eat regular meals. That’s because the body focuses its attention on digestion throughout the day. Fasting frees your body from this daily chore so it can work on cleansing, repairing and healing. It’s like taking a week’s vacation to thoroughly clean your home.
While all this important work is going on inside, you want to give your body the rest it needs. Take more breaks. Avoid exhausting work. Go for walks. Get fresh air and sun. Go to bed early, as powerful healing hormones are released while you sleep. Relax before bed by taking a bath, reading a good book or listening to beautiful music.

5) Choose a Plan
Many people think fasting means a strict water fast. Some people even try to follow the model of some biblical heroes—no food or water, which can be dangerous. But there is more than one type of fast. Choose the one that is best for you.
Water fast. A strict water fast for more than two or three days is not recommended unless you can completely rest and are medically supervised.
Juice fast. Freshly made juice is rich in antioxidants that bind toxins so they don’t damage cells—and those antioxidants are critical, especially during a fast.
Toxins are stored mainly in our fat cells. When we fast, those toxins are released in greater amounts. Without antioxidants to bind up free radicals, our cells can be damaged.
On the juice fast, you can drink vegetable juices, spring water, coconut water, veggie broth and herbal teas throughout the day. I emphasize vegetable juice because fruit juice has too much sugar, which can cause spikes and dips in blood sugar, leaving you tired.
All this will keep you healthy, energized and hydrated. To keep from boredom, try new juice and green smoothie recipes.

6) Be Wise
You may have a physical condition that would make water or juice fasting unwise or dangerous. Seek medical advice first. However, be aware that many doctors have little knowledge of fasting or training in nutrition. People who should not do a strict water or juice fast include women who are pregnant or nursing, people who are anorexic or bulimic, anyone who is emaciated or underweight, and those who are on dialysis.
Be aware of medications and their effects while you fast. For example, a vegetable juice fast can lower your blood pressure quickly, so you would need to cut back on medication, for which you should seek your physician’s advice. People with diabetes or hypoglycemia can modify a vegetable juice fast and include green smoothies made with avocado for extra protein and fat. This would also be my recommendation for anyone who is elderly or weak.

During your fast, if you become so hungry you could eat the plaster off your wall, you may have parasites or yeast overgrowth. It could be that freeloaders in your body are screaming for food. You may need to add Dr. Sebi’s compounds/cleansing package to your fast.

Please note: Children under the age of 15 should not do a strict water or juice fast.
7) Determine the Length
You can fast from one day to an extended period of time,

8) Know the Symptoms
As your body releases toxins, you might get some detox reactions, such as headaches, tiredness, foggy brain or bad breath. This can be part of your body ridding itself of toxins that could cause disease, which is a good thing. Don’t quit your fast when this happens. The symptoms should pass rather quickly.

9) Meditate/Focus
This is a good time to be less talkative and allow the mind to heal as well during this time.

10) Break Smart
How you break a fast is as important as the fast itself. Break your fast the first day with only vegetable juices, green smoothies, raw fruits and vegetables, veggie soups, dehydrated vegan foods or steamed vegetables. Never break a fast with a heavy cooked meal as you can harm your body and end up with stomach cramps and digestive issues.

Bonus: Know the Benefits

The ancient discipline of fasting offers health benefits no other therapy can provide. On the physical side, it rapidly rids the body of waste and toxins—like changing old water in an aquarium. It can eliminate edema and lower blood pressure. A study published by the Journal of Alternative Complementary Medicine in 2002 found that 90 percent of 174 patients with high blood pressure who incorporated fasting achieved normal blood pressure. Each of the participants who had been on antihypertensive medications were able to get off their drugs.

Fasting also helps rebalance your body’s pH level. The typical American diet is mostly acid forming. A slightly acidic body contributes to weight gain, cancer and a host of other diseases. Fasting helps to restore your body to a Alkaline pH balance as well as facilitates weight loss—water weight first, then fat. This ancient practice appears to reset the metabolism, much like a computer reboot.

A fast also gives your digestive tract a rest. This helps your digestive system heal, which can lead to great health improvements. Allergy symptoms often improve with fasting. disorders may heal. Fasting improves insulin sensitivity by lowering blood sugar, which helps diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Please read the pinned post that will guide you as you fast to help you overstand the various phases of the fast and what to expect during these times.
Peace! We are all in this journey together!!

An Alkaline/Electric Plant-Based Lifestyle Inspired by Dr. Sebi Is Different From A Vegan and Vegetarian Lifestyle

What is an Alkaline/Electric Plant-Based Lifestyle Inspired by Dr. Sebi?

Is it the same as vegan or vegetarian diet?

What’s the difference?

Does this sound familiar? Don’t worry, many others are asking the same questions. There’s a lot of confusion about the difference between alkaline/electric plant-based and vegan.

There’s a couple key distinctions. Let’s take a look at food…

An alkaline/electric plant-based lifestyle is one that is based on the methodology and protocols of Dr. Sebi. This includes the consumption of natural whole plant foods the create the least amount of mucus in the body, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. As the name implies, it is a lifestyle with natural plant foods as the focus rather than a processed food or animal-based diet. Processed and animal-based more accurately describe the diet of westernized societies and this type of food consumption creates a very acidic pH and has grave consequences overtime.

Dr. Sebi established a new standard in how we approach and select foods. Most often an alkaline/electric plant-based lifestyle is referring to one that is 100% plants and as we have learned in Dr. Sebi’s lectures he even advocated the use of the black bee honey in both medicinal and nutritional consumption. An alkaline/electric plant based lifestyle also focuses on the use of electric herbs to aid the body in healing and restoring itself from an acidic pH to one that is alkaline.

A vegan diet, on the other hand, is one that eliminates the consumption of any other sentient being or their by-products. This means no animal flesh (beef, poultry or fish), no dairy products, no eggs and no honey   I love how Dick Gregory, put it: “I don’t eay anything that can fart, doodoo, pee, or screw”

Depending who you ask, honey may or may not be an acceptable ingredient for vegans. A vegetarian diet comes with much more variety. Vegetarians generally don’t eat animal flesh, but are ok with dairy products and/or eggs. Ultimately, they limit their animal consumption based on what they are comfortable with. For instance some people call themselves pesco-vegetarians, meaning they include fish in their vegetarian diet.

A key piece to note in reference to vegans is when you look under the covers you begin to realize it is not as healthy as many may believe.  The foods we consume have to be more than ethically and morally correct. The foods we consume must resonate with our molecular structure, it must create an alkaline environment that will provide us with an optimal level of living. Many vegan are not necessarily eating whole, plant foods. In most cases a vegan consumes a very acidic diet that includes many unnatural foods. potatoes and other starchy foods, many processed snack foods and unnatural beverages can all be vegan. The food industry has caught on to the growing acceptance of a vegan diet, and thus vegan junk food and packaged meals has become easily accessible and increasingly palatable. These animal-free foods are still loaded with sugars, chemicals, fatty and harmful oils and un-natural salt  and thousands of other non animal additives with harmful effects on the body.  These man-made ingredients are not just appealing, but are often powerfully addictive. You can see that a vegan diet does not necessarily equate with a healthy diet.

In all honesty, an alkaline/electric whole food, plant-based lifestyle is not without room for further growth and expansion. Unfortunately the creator of this movement has passed but his legacy continues through millions of people that know the importance of selecting foods based on our genetic structure as well as for the benefit of achieving alkalinity.

It is important for me to say, this lifestyle is not perfect but I will echo Dr. Sebi by saying the foods on the nutritional guide are the best of the worst foods we have. There are foods included on the nutritional guide that are naturally occurring hybrids like kale, with gluten such as the ancient grains spelt, kamut and rye  and with  small amounts of starch such as the garbanzo beans/chickpeas but this is by far healthier than a vegan diet consisting of highly processed foods neither resonating with our DNA or creating an alkaline environment for our bodies to thrive in.

The good thing about the word vegan in many cases represents eating a diet without meat and with lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and seeds. This is helpful in transitioning a person from vegan to alkaline/electric plant based, inspired by Dr. Sebi.  It is also helpful to use the word vegan when you are in most non vegan eateries because of what most non vegans believe the word to mean “frutis & veggies”. We are still making strides to get the word Alkaline/ Electric into our homes so that more and more people will know the importance of eating to restore the body to its optimal level of functioning. Continue to support us as we continue to provide you and others with more information on the alkaline/electric lifestyle.

Tofu Replacement & Chickpea Alternative

If you are getting tired of using chickpeas to make your breakfast scramble then I have the thing for you. If you can’t use chickpeas due to fibroids and just want to eat less of them, then I have the ingredient for you!
Soy as we know is not recommended for consumption no matter how they dress it up or package it. This recipe is traditionally made with either soy milk or dairy milk in some cultures, but in the African Bio- Mineral culture – created by Dr. Sebi I am beginning a new tradition using hemp seed milk.

Hemp Seed Crumble – Recipe

  • 1 cup hemp seed hearts
  • 3 cups of spring water
  • blend to make milk
  • place in a sauce pan and boil and stir lightly the entire time
  • The milk will begin to form and may even begin to curdle
  • After the milk begins to bubble reduce the heat to a simmer and squeeze in 2 key limes (remove seeds)
  • 2 Key lime squeezed – this is needed to make the milk curdle
  • Allow the mixture to cool and pour it into a fine strainer (place cheesecloth over the strainer) and sit it over a bowl to catch the liquid.
  • In the strainer you will see lots of curdled hemp seeds milk and this is what is used to make the crumble.
  • After about 2 minutes to allow most of the water to drain off, pick up the cheesecloth with the curds inside and twist to remove all excess liquids.
  • You will be left with the curds that will then be used in your breakfast scramble.

Make sure to order hemp seeds and have them delivered to your home before you run out!

The scramble

was made using the hemp crumble and I added it into the pan with my sauteed peppers, onions, mushrooms and plum tomatoes.

The Lifestyle of An Alkaline Vegan Girl ~ From Shopping to Cooking to Preparing Meals

a1343640207_10

Ready! Set! Go! You have made the decision so many of us have made and that decision is to be an alkaline vegan. After learning about the alkaline vegan lifestyle through viewing DVDs and attending live lectures of  Dr. Sebi I made the same decision many others have made to commit to the lifestyle of an alkaline vegan.

Now that you’ve made the decision you may be asking yourself what is next. There are many pointers that all lead to great health but for this blog I want to focus on 3 questions asked  by Naya one of the members in my Facebook groups Alkaline Vegan Girls, 1) where do you grocery shop, 2) how often, and 3) what are the pantry essentials? https://www.facebook.com/groups/alkalinevegangirls/  These are the my thoughts about the questions asked:

“My Top 5 Places to Shop”

farmers-market

  1. Local Farmer’s Markets ~ fresh produce, grains, flours, and spices, nuts
  2. Local International Markets ~ fresh produce with Hispanic origins, fresh herbs for seasoning foods
  3. Local Health Food Stores ~ loose herbs for teas, some grains, nuts and seeds
  4. Chain stores ~ While I am out in the community working with client’s I look to see what is on the nutritional guide and sometimes the  chain stores will have spelt and quinoa flour
  5. Online ~ herbs for teas and seasonings, pastas and breads.

How Often Do I Shop and What are the Pantry Essentials:

stockingavegankitchen-lg

I shop weekly and usually at the beginning of the week on Sundays or the end of the week on Saturday. The key essentials for an alkaline vegan to have in the pantry are the following:

An Alkaline Vegan Girl On the Road

I’m on the road traveling to visit family and it is a must to be prepared with electric foods when traveling! No worries I learned from the best, packed my clothes first and later packed my food! 2 1/2 gallon size smoothies: Raspberry & Mango explosion and Strawberry & Raspberry & Soursop Trio. In the small crockpots I have sautéed kale with onions and peppers on top of a trios of wild rice quinoa and amaranth And one large sautéed mushroom . The second pot has the burro stew with peppers, onions and mushrooms on top of the wild rice trio. I made some ginger cookies and left them right on the counter. Let’s not forget the 1/2 gallon of spring water and key limes, and all my herbs.
